Rebuilding Schools Nepal

Rebuilding Schools Nepal was founded by Helen Woodward and Rafik Iddin after the Nepal earthquakes in 2015, to rebuild Antarastriya Yuba Barsa Secondary School. Helen and Rafik visited the school whilst trekking in the region in April 2015 before the earthquake and asked to meet with head teacher Kamal Bikram. They were so impressed with his commitment and credibility they asked to meet him a second time on their return through the village. The project to re-build the school originated from those meetings.

The organisation is run purely on a voluntary basis, and the outcomes are to:

  • Improve educational attendance and outcomes
  • Improve the learning environment and resources
  • Improve access to higher education and professions

To date funds have been raised and money delivered to pay for stationary for the children to use in lessons, established a safe drinking water supply to the school and provided 6 composting toilets.

Now the fundraising focus is on the earthquake resistant new classrooms.

To show your support you can join us for a Les Miserables musical evening on Saturday October 8th at All Souls in Astley.
